Restaurant terms
Version 2026-09 · Last updated: September 2026
These are the terms for restaurants that join Bites Local, in plain English. By ticking the box on the application form, you agree to them.
The short version
- Bites Local is for independent restaurants only. We review every application and choose which restaurants join, based on things like independence, customer reviews and food quality.
- If you’re accepted, you get a page on the Bites Local marketplace, and customers’ orders come to you on WhatsApp.
- You pay £39 a month and 5% commission on the food you sell through Bites Local, both plus VAT.
- If you’re one of the first 100 restaurants accepted, your first 3 months’ monthly fee is free and there’s no setup fee.
- Customers pay by card before you cook. You’re paid once a week, every Friday: the food price less 5%, plus the delivery charge whenever you deliver an order yourself.
- You can leave whenever you like. There’s no minimum contract.
1. What you get
- Your own restaurant page on biteslocal.co.uk, built from the menu, logo and photos you send us.
- Orders sent to your WhatsApp, with card payments taken for you.
- Couriers booked for delivery orders, or the option to deliver yourself.
- Changes to your menu, prices, photos and opening hours whenever you ask.
- Support from the Bites Local team.
2. What it costs
- Monthly fee: £39 plus VAT, taken each month.
- Commission: 5% plus VAT on the food price of each order paid through Bites Local. Nothing is charged on orders that are declined, cancelled or refunded before we pay you.
- Launch offer: the first 100 restaurants accepted pay no monthly fee for their first 3 months and no setup fee. Commission applies from your first order.
- Setup fee: £199 plus VAT after the first 100 restaurants.
- Customers also pay Bites Local a £1 platform fee and, for deliveries, a delivery charge. These are shown on their bill and aren’t taken from your money.
- We’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice by email before changing any of these prices.
3. How you get paid
- Customers pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through Stripe before you start cooking. That payment confirms the order; it is not paid to you straight away.
- You receive the food price less the 5% commission. If you deliver an order with your own driver, you also receive the delivery charge the customer paid.
- You’re paid once a week. Every Friday we pay you for all your orders from the previous Monday to Sunday, straight into your bank account through Stripe. Your first payout usually takes 7 to 14 days after your first order while Stripe checks your details. You’ll need to set up a free Stripe account with us, and Stripe’s own terms apply to it.
- The monthly fee and any refunds for mistakes (see section 6) are taken from your payouts.
4. Orders
- Please accept or decline each order within 10 minutes. If you don’t reply, we cancel it and let the customer know.
- Once an order is paid, please prepare it for the time you gave, reply READY when it’s packed, and hand it to the courier or customer.
- If something goes wrong after you’ve accepted, tell us on WhatsApp straight away so we can update the customer.
5. Your menu, prices and food
- You set your own prices. We never add a markup to them.
- You’re responsible for your menu, prices, allergen information and descriptions being accurate, and for telling us when they change.
- You must be registered as a food business with your local council and follow food safety and hygiene law.
- You’re responsible for any alcohol licence needed for what you sell.
6. Refunds and complaints
- We deal with customers first and will let you know about any complaint.
- If an order is wrong, missing items or not made because of the kitchen, we may refund the customer and take that amount from your next payout. We’ll always tell you why.
- If a courier we booked loses or damages an order, that’s on us, not you.
7. Your logo, photos and menu
- You confirm you own, or have permission to use, anything you send us.
- You let us use it to show and promote your restaurant on Bites Local and our social media while you’re with us.
- Ask us to remove anything at any time and we will.
8. Customer details
- We share a customer’s name, order, and for your own deliveries their address and number, only so you can make and deliver that order.
- Please don’t use these details for anything else, such as marketing, unless the customer has agreed to it with you directly.
- Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data.
9. Leaving
- You can leave at any time by emailing us. Your page comes down and your monthly fee stops at the end of the month you’re in.
- We’ll still pay you for any orders already completed.
- We can end the arrangement with 30 days’ notice, or straight away if there’s a serious breach such as a food safety issue or repeated unfulfilled orders.
10. The legal bits
- We’ll run Bites Local with reasonable care and skill, but we can’t promise it will never be interrupted.
- Neither of us is responsible for indirect losses such as lost profits. Nothing here limits liability where the law says it can’t be limited.
- We may update these terms. We’ll email you at least 30 days before any change that affects you.
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Our general Terms & Conditions also apply.
